Humble Visionz' Lyle Smith takes bold stand at ACFW
The fight against systemic racism clearly is on the mind of designer Lyle Smith.
In the runway show for his Humble Visionz at Atlantic City Fashion Week in New Jersey on Feb. 20, Smith mixed in social commentary with the streetwear worn by his male and models.
The opening top was spray-painted with George Floyd’s tragic final words, “I Can’t Breathe,” which was repeated on a sign held by a model during the encore. Another model carried a sign with words that have become an unfortunate requirement when members of the black community are approached by the police: “Don’t Shoot Me.”
Smith’s support of the Black Lives Matter movement was bolstered by clothing that exuded a cool, youthful and vibrant vibe.
Between the commentary and the fashion, Smith earned a vigorous round of applause from the guests that filled the space at the Showboat Hotel Atlantic City.
